Protocols refer to the value systems, customs and cultural practices that are an important part of all One Arrow First Nation. Protocol is the beginning step presented to Elders to provide guidance on how to treat and work with people in a respectful and useful way.
The sweat lodge ceremony is one of the sacred ceremonies utilized with the community. Sweats may be conducted as a preliminary to other activities, such as a fast. Sweats may also be done for healing. The purpose behind all of these, however, is simple spiritual cleansing. The lodge is designed to provide a safe, sacred place where the participants can concentrate on the spirits that are invited to the ceremony.
Medicine picking also known as traditional medicine refers to the knowledge, skills and practices based on the teachings and experiences passed through time immemorial of plants, animals, rocks and minerals that are used in the maintenance of health and in the prevention, diagnosis, improvement or treatment of physical and mental illness.
The Tipi, a traditional architectural home of the Cree people, teaches us how to care for ourselves and reminds us of the good values that make up an honorable person. It teaches community and how to care for others and how we bring ourselves together to live in harmony with all things on Earth.
